New training project for IT hopefuls

Vincentians from all walks of life are being urged to take advantage of an upcoming training project, which is intended to increase their individual marketability and competitiveness, not only locally but also in the region.{{more}}

The National Information and Communication Technology Training Project, which has been set up and funded by the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the European Union, aims to train close to 3000 Vincentians in a three-year span at basic and advanced levels.

The training is open to persons in the public and private sectors and also unemployed and inexperienced persons who are interested in gaining knowledge in information and communications technology.

Project Manager Kyron Barker, speaking to Searchlight Newspaper, said that the courses, which can run from six weeks to three months in length, according to the level of training and commitment of the individual, can give persons an advantage in the workforce since it will definitely enhance their skills.

He also indicated that the individuals taking part in the project will receive funding for the course, and will also, upon completion, receive an internationally recognized certificate.

Barker said that some of the courses have been predetermined based on local demand.

These include the International Computer Driving License, Computer Application and Information Processing, Basic Keyboarding, CompTIA A+, Network +, Security +, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Certified Internet Web Professional.

Application forms for this project will be made available Monday December 3rd, and can be obtained at the project office downstairs the Kingstown Cooperative Credit Union Building, the Ministry of Technology Headquarters, or on the Government website: www.gov.vc
