SVG Port prepares for Christmas barrels

The areas designated for the clearing of barrels have been increased for the Christmas season, the Port Authority has announced.

A release from the Port states that this year, the Transit Shed, their usual delivery site and the Geest/ WIBDECO Shed have been designated as their two locations at Port Kingstown.{{more}} In addition, some barrels would be delivered at the Campden Park Container Port (CPCP). The release advises that shipping agents would advise persons receiving barrels as to their barrel location. The complete transactions involved in the clearing of cargo would be facilitated at any one location.

The release states that the Port Authority has prepared a checklist of procedures with step by step instructions for the clearing of cargo and copies would be made available to the public at Shipping Agencies and all the Port Authority’s point of transactions, as with the implementation of the Customs and Excise Department’s ASYCUDA ++ software, some changes in required documentation have been made. Customers are therefore encouraged to read the checklist carefully before collecting cargo and reminded to bring along all necessary documentation and a valid photo ID.

The Port Authority has installed a customer service telephone line 451-2191 to provide additional information. The release states “We are also prepared to extend our normal operating hours during this time. The extended hours will be announced. Customers are however, urged to come as soon as possible to clear their Christmas cargo”.
