According to a release from Projects Promotion, this conference is being planned in response to the call by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves for the building of a consensus to construct a Modern, Competitive, Post Colonial Economy that is at once national and regional.

In a broader sense, it is a recognition of the significance of the views that are being expressed on the topic by various Caribbean personalities, in particular Prime Minister Arthur of Barbados and Sir Dwight Venner of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

At this forum, participants from all sectors will engage each other in intense exchange of ideas and positions on the role and place of each in the construction of the post colonial future. The forum will also consider what it takes to focus the regional movement, not into building a single market and economy, but more so into a post colonial single market and economy.

There will be presentations from OECS personalities, from Universities, from the Universities from CARICOM, and a feature address is expected from Central Bank Governor Sir Dwight Venner on the opening night. Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves will give concrete focus to the discussion in his paper: “The Case for a Small State and Region: The Vincentian Post Colonial Enterprise.”

Planning for the forum is in an advanced stage. The forum will be held at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown.
