Ten students were awarded for their outstanding performance in the 2007 Cambridge GCE Advanced Level and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) at the Schoolsâ Independence Rally that was held at the Victoria Park on Wednesday.{{more}}
The Prime Ministerâs Award for Academic Excellence and the Toussaint Lâ Ouverture (Haitian Freedom Fighter) Award went to Raquel Frederick, who was the top overall performer in the A Level and Cape Exams. Aidon Shearman received the Nelson Mandela Award, while his brother Arvid received the Walter Rodney Award.
The George A. Mc Intosh Award was given to Heidi Badenock, and Joan Joseph received the Elma Francois Award. The four other persons who were awarded at the rally were Jo Ann Marshall, Candida Joseph, Calicia Charles and Osneth Cato, who all received Exhibitions.
During the rally, students were entertained in song, music, drumming and choral speech by various schools. Short remarks were made by several persons, including representative from the Ministry of Culture, Juanita Phillips. (SB)
