Alliance Francaise shows Mémoirs of the French
Last Thursday, the Alliance Francaise held their first Open Day, and students from secondary schools in Kingstown got the opportunity to learn more about the French culture and Franceâs history with this country.{{more}}
Secretary of the Alliance Francaise, Abigail Providence, told SEARCHLIGHT âMany Vincentians are not aware that the French was present in St. Vincent and the Grenadines before the British.â
In an effort to sensitize persons, several French documents from the 18th century were posted on the walls of the building for the day, along with some mémoirs of the French presence in this country.
Providence also pointed out that their main target this year is the secondary schools that do French because of the limited space at the Alliance.
During the morning session, students were engaged in reading, chatting, watching French movies, and listening to the presentation on the historical relationships between St. Vincent and the Grenadines and France.
In the afternoon, remarks were given by Lennox John, Honorary Consul of the French Republic in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He also had the task of welcoming the new committee and the new director.
A graduation ceremony for 10 persons who completed this semester, followed by the sampling of French food, drinks and snacks, was held.
