Sir Louis celebrates millennium in Ethiopia
The Honourable Sir Louis Straker, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Commerce and Trade, left the State last week Saturday, September 8, 2007, as a guest of the Government of Ethiopia. Ethiopia celebrated its new millennium, the beginning of the year 2000, on September 12, 2007.{{more}}
The local calendar in Ethiopia adopted from the Julian calendar, used in the West until 1582, has the third millennium starting September 12, 2007. An estimated 300,000 extra visitors are expected for the celebration in Addis Ababa.
While in Ethiopia, the Minister held discussions with his counter-part His Excellency Seyoum Mesflin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and other Government Officials as well as other Government Ministers from other Countries, to strengthen friendly relations and promote our countryâs interest.
Sir Louis Straker also visited historical sites and the Rastafarian Community of Shashamane.
The Minister is expected to return to the State on September 16, 2007.
