MP ‘doing best for Owia’, despite snub
Like a spurned lover who refuses to let go, the Unity Labour Party (ULP) administration has pledged to continue
to woo Owia residents, despite that communityâs continual rejection of the party at the polls.{{more}}
Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Montgomery Daniel, who is also the Parliamentary representative for North Windward, says that the election snub by Owia will not stop him from doing his best for the people.
The ULP was beaten handsomely by the New Democratic Party (NDP) at the Owia polling stations, by 311 and 279 votes in 2001 and 2005, respectively.
âThis will not in any way daunt my thinking and my work, for what I have to do, and do best for this area,â Daniel said when he spoke at the ground breaking ceremony for the Owia Fisheries Centre last Friday, September 7.
He reminded the villagers that the government has, among other things, refurbished the police station and primary school in the area.
He said that the constituency of North Windward has historically been neglected and lacking development.
Daniel said that the fishing centre would bring life to a dynamic tourism product, which âwill certainly be the engine of economic growth.â
For his part, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said that over the years people have played politics with the communities north of the dry river. He said his government views the people in these communities as special and would not play politics with them.
