Counselors to get certification through Theological Institute

Persons interested in gaining certification as a counselor will soon be able to be qualified through the Miami International Seminary in conjunction with the Institute of Theological Education.{{more}}

The programme, which was launched at Girls’ High School, includes 10 courses and 40 hours of practicum looking at Developmental Psychology, Basic Skills in Counselling, Intergration of Theology and Psychology, Theories and Techniques in Counseling, Pre-Marital Counseling among other things.

Speaking with Searchlight, Director of the Institute of Theological Education John Lewis said that with the need for guidance counselors in schools and with so many young people needing direction, the programme comes at an opportune time for persons interested making a difference in this career path.

Lewis emphasized that the programme was fully accredited through the auspices of the Miami International Seminary (www.mints.edu) with each course costing $100.00 and an additional registration fee of $25.00

The Director also noted that Christian leaders, social workers, youth workers and teachers who are seeking to gain better understanding of the field of counseling could sign up by contacting him at 456-5246/ 454-3067 or Paul Duncan at 528-2535.

Sessions will also be conducted at the Kingstown campus this Saturday and at Georgetown from on Monday September 17 from 6 p.m.
