The event, which was organized by Lisa Joseph, Wholesale Coordinator of Food City, was a part of the supermarketâs Back to School promotion. Employees were dressed in uniforms of Bishopâs College, Intermediate High School and the Technical College, complete with a âteacherâ, Eurleane Olliverre.
âItâs a pleasant reminder of what it feels like to be in school, however in a working environment,â commented Joseph on how it felt to be back in her school uniform once again.
Customers also reacted well to the âstudentsâ presence at the supermarket, joking and laughing with the employees.
âThey like it, they really like it,â said Bernice Coombs, Supermarket Coordinator. Although Coombs admitted that not many staff participated, Joseph wishes to make it an annual event. âFood City wants to use different ideas to be close to customers,â she stated.
Acting Teacher Eurleane Olliverre also stated that the employeesâ participation showed consumers, specifically children, how they feel about Education. âIf we look like them and interact with them, they become interested,â she stated. The promotion, which lasted the entire day, is among several at Food City supermarket. (SB)
