‘Network failure not due to storm’

Digicel is reassuring customers that the company continues to provide a top quality service, which is a lot better than that offered by its competition.{{more}}

This is the view of Jerry George, Digicel’s Public Relations Officer, as he refuted claims that Digicel encountered network failure from August, 17-18, the period when St.Vincent and the Grenadines was affected by tropical storm conditions during the passage of Hurricane Dean.

George said during that period some persons were affected by network congestion but it was not a case where the company lost any equipment.

“We have done all that is humanly possible to provide a quality service,” said George, who apologized for any inconvenience caused by the congestion on the lines. He added that these things are out of the company’s control.

With regard to the network, George said the system is capable of withstanding winds up to 200 miles per hour, and there are measures in place to deal with other elements such as lightening strikes.

George said the hurricane season is on, and while Digicel cannot give any guarantees that the network would not be affected, it has a detailed plan in place for the rest of the season to provide a quality service.

He noted the system can be exposed to elements of nature such as conditions that can affect radio and television signals. “However, when things like this happen, we can assure them (customers) we will do whatever we can to restore service as soon as possible,” George stated.

George said Digicel has both the human resources and technical expertise to deal with challenges when they arise. (HN)
