Walters, the son of Pastor Venol Walters and Lecita Walters, a teacher, scored eight grade ones and two grade twos.

He received grade ones in the subject areas of Mathematics, English A, French, Spanish, and Biology with distinctions in Geography, Information Technology and Chemistry. He received grade twos for English B and Physics.

Though Leon is generally satisfied with his performance he believed he could have done better in his English B.

His mind is set on becoming an ophthalmologist, computer programmer or meteorologist. However, in the short term he hopes to remain focused so that he may become a national scholar.

Walters is expressing thanks to his mother, grandmother Agnes Walters, aunts and uncles for the support that they gave to him.

Leon’s mum Lecita, told SEARCHLIGHT that she had expected her son to do well.

“He always did his best, plus we were always there

for him (referring to herself and her husband). Whatever he needed we always provided,” said the proud mother.

“I encouraged him and being a prayer warrior I knew he would have done well,” said Mrs Walters.

She is appealing to parents to show interest in their children, converse with them as they build solid relationships and enquire what they are doing at school. She is also appealing to parents to impart spiritual education to their children. (HN)
