On Tuesday 7th August, 12 poultry farmers met with officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to discuss the problems being experienced with the production of the birds.

Robertson said upon receiving the complaints, the Ministry launched an investigation into the problem. According to a release from the Ministry, it was found that the birds sold to farmers were ‘authentic broiler birds’ as assured by the suppliers of the eggs. Additionally, the problem being experienced seems to point to the diet of the birds.

Robertson indicated that the investigations are continuing after which the farmers will be informed of the conclusions by next week. In the meantime, the farmers are advised to discontinue rearing the birds as their level of performance is not likely to change.

The 12 farmers met with Acting Permanent Secretary Alan Alexander, Chief Agricultural Officer Reuben Robertson, Chief Veterinary Officer (Ag), Dr. Malaika Glasgow, Operations Manager of the Hatchery, Brentford Findlay and other officers of the department.
