Findlay-Scrubb leaving big boots to fill
The person or persons taking up the position or positions formerly held by Faylene Findlay-Scrubb, as she heads off to further her studies, will have some big boots to fill for the next year or so.{{more}}
At the end of August, Findlay-Scrubb will be heading off to the University of Surrey in Gilford England, where she will continue higher learning, with her sights set on a Master of Science degree in Tourism Management.
Findlay-Scrubb wore two very broad hats during her six years in the public spotlight.
The former primary school teacher and St. Vincent and the Grenadines Broadcasting Corporation (SVGBC) reporter climbed the ranks in the Ministry of Tourism, from Communications Manager to Tourism Planner, and with the Carnival Development Corporation (CBC), from member of the Marketing and Promotions Committee to coordinator of the group entrusted with selling carnival to the nation as well as the Diaspora.
Speaking to Searchlight at her office at the Cruise ship terminal, Findlay-Scrubb said that working in the Ministry as well as with the CDC were challenging, great and rewarding experiences, and although there may have been a number of unhappy days especially as a member of the CDC, there is a sense of gratification when the job is done and an effort is applauded.
The petite soft spoken lady said she had learned a lot from both experiences, with her most memorable moments being when she was promoted to tourism planner and finally being able to play mas this year while on the CDC committee.
Findlay-Scrubb will follow in the footsteps of her mentors Vera Ann Brereton and Vida Bernard who also studied at the University of Surrey, and maybe someday become Director of Tourism as did both ladies.
She believes that not enough emphasis is being placed on training in tourism, since tourism is a major contributor to this countryâs economy.
The self-proclaimed workaholic said that she would miss working at the Ministry of Tourism, but while in England, she would still be committed to promoting carnival and St. Vincent and the Grenadines on a whole.
Findlay-Scrubb said that she would definitely miss her mom, sister and nephew, with whom she has a very close relationship, and her tight circle of friends especially her fiancé. She plans to spend her remaining weeks taking in as much sand and sun as possible.
She also looks forward to returning home
after her studies are completed and to one day set up her own public relations firm.
