Digicel names SVG top ten contestants
Digicel has chosen the top ten contestants to compete in the St Vincent and the Grenadines leg of the 2007 Digicel Rising Star Competition.{{more}}
On Saturday July 29, some 87 persons auditioned; they were narrowed down to 50 and on Sunday July 30, the ten finalists were selected.
The ten finalists Vincentians can now vote for are:
Cordelia Dabreo, a 24-year old nurse from Park Hill who said that she loves singing to babies and believes that the infants feel calmer and heal faster when she sings to them.
Jeslyn Holder of Byrea, believes that versatility is the major factor in winning this competition and he believes that he has that musical flexibility. The 33-year old is
a trainee Marine Pilot who hopes to gain a degree in Maritime Management.
Kenrife Matthias is a 22-year old reservation travel agent from Cedars. He was hesitant at first to enter the competition, but is now confident that he can bring the Digicel Rising Stars title back to this country for the third time.
Josette Cupid of Cane Hall is a 24-year old a waitress and bartender who sings Karaoke in her spare time but dreams of making it on the big stage. She said that that her ultimate goal is to âlive happy and take care of her two childrenâ.
Morisa Mc Kenzie is a 26-year old Fair Hall resident who is encouraging Vincentians to use their talent and put their all into what they are doing. Now back home from sailing on a cruise liner, Morisa said that she just knew in her spirit that she had to enter the competition.
Jael Kelly is a former Bethel High School student awaiting results from CXC exams. The 17-year old Questelles lass loves accounting but her real passion is singing.
Lesjuan Sutherland is a 28-year old from the Lowmans Leeward community who is being trained for the Royal Navy.
Jillian Charles is a self employed as a caterer who said that she does good food but sings just as well. The 30-year old Bay Hill resident said that she was picked last year in the top ten but is giving it another try this year.
At just 16-years old, Naveecha James of Barrouallie is the baby of the group. The Dr J P Eustace student said that she weighed only 4lbs as a premature baby when she was born but her mother told her that even at that age, she had a powerful voice and she plans to sing her heart out.
A former model, 24-year old Cathleen Davis hopes to one day own her own clothing line as a fashion designer. She believes that she has what it takes to be the next Digicel Rising Star.
Meanwhile, Marketing Manager Juno De Roche said that she was pleased that so many people turned out to the auditions and described the competition as âkeenâ.
De Roche commended people who did not make it in their first effort for being persistent, since some of them made it on their second try and said that this showed that Vincentians were serious about their talent. De Roche hoped that St Vincent and the Grenadines would retain the title and do the hat trick as the 2007 Digicel Rising Stars champions.
