PM wants top class recording studio in SVG

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said that he believes that the Government will have to get involved in building a top quality recording studio here.

“I have been advised there are some which do not have the quality which they ought to have in order to go genuinely regional and international.”{{more}}

Dr. Gonsalves made the statements while delivering his lecture on the Modern Competitive Post Colonial Economy, at the Peace Memorial Hall on Tuesday.

He said that a top quality studio would help serious artistes take their music further than the local stage.

Dr. Gonsalves stated that an artiste who simply wants to have a certain local notoriety, is an artiste who doesn’t yet comprehend the commercial value of culture as something to be marketed.

He also hinted that artistes should look past songs that ridicule political leaders.

“You will get a certain local notoriety among people who would like to see a leader being lampooned,” he said. “But it doesn’t do anything, you’re not going to get very far internationally. You’ve had your five minutes of glory on the stage and you go back to wherever you are in a frustrated sense.”

Gonsalves stated that enhanced economic diversification depends on top quality of all types, including cultural and entertainment services. (JJ)
