In addition to winning the Student of the Year award, Kisha copped 6 other awards that day: Integrated Science, Economics, Principles of Business, Principles of Accounts, Mathematics and Information Technology. According to the Chairperson, âthis is a true model studentâ.
To those who know Kisha, her success on that day came as no surprise. Only last year, Kisha was the student from her school to have received the George Phillips award for academic excellence in fourth form. Additionally, while in second form she was awarded a scholarship from the Embassy of China on Taiwan, to assist with school supplies – again based on her academic performance. She therefore has a history of outstanding academic accomplishments.
Moreover, Kisha has stood as an exemplary model of a Christian Youth, being known among her peers as morally strict and serious-minded. Kisha attributes this last quality to her success, affirming in tears during her Valedictorian Speech that, âAll that I am and hope to be is because of Christ in meâ.
Speaking on the theme âUnlocking our Potential, extending beyond ourselvesâ, Kisha reminded students of the importance of trusting in God for help in every aspect of their life. She also stressed on the importance of looking beyond their difficulties to the possibilities. She reiterated that they should not âsit back and say I cannotâ but to seek out the many opportunities that currently exist.
Kishaâs success did not come easily. During her days at school, she faced many financial situations that sometimes threatened her ability to remain in school. Despite these challenges, this young lady remained consciously determined not to follow others whom she saw resorting to immoral means of survival. Today, Kisha anxiously awaits her CXC results, hoping against all odds to be able to acquire the necessary supplies to attend the Community College in the new school term.(AR)
