DaSilva: Was Adams’ contract renewed?

Tuesday, July 17 was day No. 52 of the picket being staged in front of the electoral office in an effort to remove Supervisor of Elections Rodney Adams from office, and the demonstration’s ringleader Frank Da Silva says that he is not giving up until Adams exits.{{more}}

In an interview with the Searchlight, Da Silva said that he was surprised that Adams was still on the job since Prime Minster Dr. Ralph Gonsalves had said that the Supervisor’s contract was supposed to come to an end at the end of June.

Da Silva questioned, “Was Dr Gonslaves lying? Has Rodney Adams’ contract been renewed, and under what conditions is he working? If Adams would be going, who is the other person earmarked for the job?”

Da Silva also said that he was astonished when Telecommunications Minister Dr Jerrol Thompson told him and Robert “Patches” Knights, (who is DaSilva’s second in command on the picket line) that Adams would be around “as long as they were picketing”. The protester said that he is not giving up and they would stay on the picket line for as long as it took.

When contacted, Supervisor of Elections Rodney Adams declined to comment on the issue. However, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Labour and Electoral Affairs Andreas Wickham told Searchlight that Adam’s contract “officially” came to an end on July 10.

It was not revealed for how long Adams will remain in the post, and what are the terms and conditions of his employment, since Adams is on the record as saying that “He would not be renewing or extending” his contract.
