The SCOPE Foundation was started to aid in excellence through education for all children in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
SCOPE President and CEO Eleen Ackie made a fervent pledge that SCOPE will work to ensure promises are kept and our childrenâs educational needs are met. This, she said will be done using the collective powers of the board of directors. The other board members are Godwin James – Chair Person, Fitz-Gerald Hutchinson – Treasurer, Stephanie Browne – Vice president, Gemma Adams – Secretary, Irwin Mounsey, Carl Glasgow, Joseph Bonadie, Bertina Sandy and Gabrielle Ackie directors.
This year SCOPE donated 25 cots to a pre school in Union Island and plans on sponsoring 10 children for the 2007 academic year; so far eight children have been chosen. Ackie said, âOnce we are able to locate them, we will aid in their educationâ.
SCOPE believes that caring for others is vital to our society; therefore they are committed to scoping out every child in our country and helping those who are disadvantaged. Their mission is to provide those children with the materials and support needed to explore their full potential as our future leaders. The success of this effort, SCOPE says, will depend on the support received from the individual citizens, community organisations and neighbourhood associations who share their vision.
Speaking at the launch, Cabinet Secretary Bernard Morgan (above right) appealed to the Vincentian community to get on board and help SCOPE. Morgan said that we all have to support them in order to help our children. (VM)
