Acting Commissioner of Police Bertie Pompey said that despite the 128 offences reported island-wide over the period Friday, July 6, 2007 to Wednesday July 11, 2007, the figures are lower in certain areas as compared to previous years.
According to Pompey, these offences ranged from pick pocketing to robberies, use of offensive weapons, and assault.
Other statistics reveal that one pipe gun and two home-made shot guns were confiscated during stop and search operations over the carnival period.
There were four also woundings reported to the police and two assaults.
Police believe that the low incidence of violence could be attributed to the No Bottle Policy, as well as the number of police officers on patrol.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Ekron Lockhart, some suspects were quickly apprehended after committing crimes, because police were in the vicinity.
The top cops said that the level of cooperation of the public proves that Vincentians know how to behave, and for normalcy to return to this country, the laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines must be respected.
Although the final reports from the various departments are not in, the heads believe that they will show that this year was far better that previous years, and the information gathered will help to make future carnivals safer for all.
