Churaman was pinned as the president of the Rotary Club St Vincent South by outgoing president Albert Porter at a handing over ceremony dinner on Saturday, June 30 at the Methodist Church Hall.

Chief Magistrate Churaman said that she felt privileged to be the first woman to hold the top position in the Rotary and said that she hopes to use the opportunity to promote a project that will be beneficial to women among the club’s other ventures.

The presidency of the Rotary Club of St Vincent went to Dr Simeon Norton who was preceded by banker Andre Codogan.

The various presidents, outgoing and incoming alike touted the many achievements of the Rotary clubs including their ongoing relationship with the Virginia based International Hospital for Children.

From 2002 to now, 53 Vincentian children have received free medical attention from the hospital valued at EC$6 million.

Over 25 wheelchairs have been donated to wheelchair-bound persons, several outreach programmes to rural communities have been done and some Community College students have benefited from the wealth of knowledge and experienced Rotarians through a mentoring programme.

Now retired Jamaican Army Company Commander and intelligence gathering expert Major Stanley Ford delivered the feature address on the topic “Security Challenges in the Caribbean and proposed solutions.”

Shevon Smith was also pinned as president of the Rotaract Club. (KJ)
