Technological advances: Turkish Ambassador donates 52 computers to St. Vincent
The Cane Hall Learning Resource Centre on June 27th was the site of a handing over ceremony in which the Turkish Ambassador Sanivar Kizildeli presented Minister of Education Girlyn Miguel with 52 computers.
The Ambassador enthusiastically said that the gift is a part of a long-term project to cooperate better with Caribbean countries, and hopes that it will help contribute to the education of the small community.{{more}} St. Vincent has enjoyed diplomatic relations with Turkey since 2002, and both countries have enjoyed a cordial relationship ever since.
Minister Miguel with obvious gratitude thanked the Ambassador. She went on to say that high on the governmentâs list of priorities is education and said that the computers would go a long way to reach the people of SVG.
Minister Miguel stated that the government is endeavouring to educate all people of St. Vincent, and although she knows that it will take some time, she said that with partnerships like the one we are experiencing with Turkey, she does believe that it can and will happen.
The Cane Hall Learning Resource Centre has not yet been officially opened. But it will be a place where the entire country can feel at ease to go to and enhance their learning. After the ceremony, the Ambassador and the Consul General of Turkey in SVG, Mr. Tansal Akcayli were presented with tokens of appreciation by Hugh Wyllie of The Adult Education Unit in the Ministry of Education.
While in St. Vincent, Ambassador Kizildeli also presented her credentials to His Excellency Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, met with Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Patricia Martin and the Doyenne of the Diplomatic Corp Her Excellency Tibisay Urdaneta Troconis of the Embassy of Venezuela. The Cuban based Turkish Ambassador visited St. Vincent from June 24th to 27th. (VM)
