The aim of the workshop was to help these journalists to sharpen their approaches on gathering good lead stories, reporting, covering political events, editing, writing hard stories, features and broadcasting.
In addressing the first day of the programme, veteran U.S Journalist and author Christopher Conte urged the young journalists to become knowledgeable about the type of readers that they are trying to reach when they are preparing their articles.
The workshop was conducted using a method where the journalists would participate in a discussion forum with the facilitators, then were given the opportunity to write an article on the spot and have it edited and be shown their weak areas.
The workshop heard presentations from Conte, Peter âAdonijahâ Alleyne – Training and Development Editor of the Nation Publishing Company, Thalia Remy, former news anchor and President of the Dominica Media Association, and Peter Wickham a Political Consultant.
The seven participating countries in the workshop are, Grenada, Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica.
