Journalists enhance skills

More than 60 young journalists from three OECS territories have returned to their news rooms with enhanced skills which should enable them to function more efficiently.

The 60, all aged between 21 to 30 years old, and with experience ranging from six months to three years were part of a young journalists training initiative, undertaken by the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM) and funded by UNESCO.{{more}} Journalists from Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and Grenada benefited from the training sessions.

The project exposed them to material and instruction on basic journalistic skills and acquainted them with methods of improving their skills sets. It’s anticipated that the two-day sessions would help them to function in an environment in which there is an increasing convergence of journalistic disciplines requiring superior analytical abilities.

The team of trainers comprised of senior media practitioners with experience in the training and mentoring of journalists. They include: Canute James, Journalist/Senior Lecturer, CARIMAC, UWI; Peter Richards, Journalist/Journalism Lecturer, UWI St Augustine; Wesley Gibbings, Journalist/Media Trainer; Vernon Khelawan, Journalist/Media Trainer; Theresa Daniel, Journalist/Media Trainer.
