Stevenson elected president of the SVGSBA

Marlon Stevenson has been elected president of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Small Business Association.

At the inaugural meeting of the association held on Tuesday June 12th at the Peace Memorial Hall, Samuel Thomas, one of the association’s founders, said that day had been long awaited, and began with a vision in 2002.{{more}}

He said with commitment and motivation, the association had become a legitimate body whose importance is recognized by the government.

Thomas was elected Vice President, Andrew Woodroffe, Secretary, Cuthbert John, Treasurer, and Francelia Marksman, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer. Kimya Glascow and David Burgin were also elected as two directors of the association.

Lynette Holder, Executive Director of the Caribbean Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, and 1st Vice President of the Barbados Small Business Association, reminded members of the challenges ahead, particularly about maintaining the vision of the association, as well as valuing unity. She stressed that the association must achieve inter-dependence, as all members must recognize the importance of one another.

Remarks were also made by Hon. Jerrol Thompson, Minister of Telecommunications, Science Technology and Industry. He said that the government recognizes the importance of small businesses, and that the government will provide the association with support on every possible level, and is eager to closely monitor their progress.

President Stevenson offered closing remarks, thanking the minister for his support and his keen interest in the association over the years. He also presented Lynette Holder with a plaque in appreciation of her involvement in the association. Stevenson mentioned several priorities, including acting with accordance with laws and business ethics, as well as maintaining productivity and integrity within the association. (KP)
