Shanka Edwards: I could have done much better
Shanka Edwards is destined for greatness; success is almost inevitable, that is if she maintains her present attitude throughout her school years.
She placed ninth overall and seventh for girls in this yearâs Common Entrance Examination, so she should be very excited but instead she is disappointed;{{more}} because, in her own words, âI could have done much better.â
Shanka 11, of Mt Pleasant, Marriaqua is the top performer from the Cane End Government School, which is celebrating its best ever results in the exam. Principal Eucille Francis told SEARCHLIGHT that this yearâs 82 percent passing grade is up 12 percent from last yearâs performance.
Shanka is her motherâs only child and said that despite her disappointment that she didnât do better she is glad that she has done well and made her mother and teachers proud.
Beaming with pride, Donnette Edwards, a janitor, who is raising her daughter alone, said that she was very proud of her and was looking forward to her continued success in life. (KJ)
