De-Yonte a natural

She never studied at home for exams, but still, she managed to place eight overall and sixth for girls in this year’s common entrance exams. It is quite clear to see that 11-year-old De-Yonte Mayers is blessed with a natural ability.{{more}}

De-Yonte, who attended the Stubbs Government School received 92.44% for English, 93.33% in Math and 93.33% General Paper.

When she walked into SEARCHLIGHT’s office on Wednesday, her broad smile alone lit up the entire building.

“I feel elated but at the same time I am not surprised by it,” said Mayers. The Victoria Village resident said that she only studied at school whenever she had a free period or her lunch break. De-Yonte attributed much of her success to her mother and Godmother. She said they were always there to give her support and encouragement. The future veterinarian said that she wants to attend the Girls’ High School in September. She also thanked her teachers for sticking with her throughout the years.

Seemingly a bit more excited than her daughter, mom, Verene Mayers said that she was very proud that her daughter accomplished such a feat and always knew she would do well in her exams. The proud mother of six said she realized her daughter’s potential at an early age. “She always received 100% at her early stages in school and she hardly went into her book at home.” (KW)
