DaVille deals with matters of the heart
With Carnival in the air, conventional wisdom would say it was a bad idea for a reggae artiste to venture to these shores to stage an event. But reggae lovers/rock singer DaâVille proved that thought wrong, performing to a sold out audience at the Aquatic Club last Saturday night.{{more}}
Following the well attended Miss SVG Pageant at the Victoria Park, patrons flocked to the club located in Villa for a performance that did not disappoint.
The singer spoke to Searchlight earlier in the day at a meet and greet at Heritage Square, where he indicated his excitement about being in St. Vincent, and getting a small taste of the Carnival scene.
The artiste, whose real name is Orville Thomas has been performing professionally for over six years, first as a member of the group ARP before going solo, but his desire to be a singer lay within way before that.
âFrom morning my dream was to become a singer.â The singer explained. âI was singing in the church and at school functions since I was small, music is my life.â
As he also explained at the club later that night, he had many opportunities to take a different turn in his life; referring to the âRude Bwoyâ lifestyle and lyrics, but he decided to stick to his vision and deal with matters of the heart. According to Daville: âIâm a lover not a fighter, some people gotta deal with what matters to them, thatâs why I write about what matters to me: love and relationships.â
Daville credits his inspiration to perform to God, as well as various genres of music, including soca, pop and rap.
He expressed his intention to work along with a number of soca artistes including Peter Ram and Machel Montano. He also said he would be excited to do work with the likes of Sizzla, R Kelly and Akon.
Promoting his new album âOn My Mindâ, which boasts 14 tracks, most of which he performed at the Aquatic Club mixed with some old songs, the Kingston, Jamaica born singer describes the album as leaflets from the book of his life. The CD contains the hit songs âAlways on my mindâ, along with âCanât get over youâ and âMy gradeâ.
