CDC and CBA hoping for resolution

08.June.07

Chairman of the Carnival Bands Association (CBA) Hugh Ragguette, and Chief Executive Officer of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Calvert Wood, are both hoping for a resolution to the bodies’ dispute which has been dragging on for months, with Vincy Mas just weeks away.{{more}}

Both parties are scheduled to meet again soon, to try to finalize fees for the eight unplaced finalists in the king and queen of the bands competition.

According to a release issued by the CBA on Wednesday, a request of $1000 in appearance fees for all semifinalists and another one thousand dollars for unplaced finalists was rejected by the CDC, even though the association had reduced the amount by $500.

The release stated that the CDC’s latest offer of $1700 in total appearance fees to unplaced finalists in the semi finals and finals was not accepted by the CBA.

Both parties are expected to meet today to finally come to terms, on a matter that has been discussed and debated since March this year.

The CBA is hoping to resolve the matter in order to complete its registration process, while the CDC wants to finalize its agenda for the preliminary competition.

The two bodies had last month resolved issues pertaining to the venue for the July 2nd Mas On The Move show. This show was originally slated to take place on Bay Street, but will now be held at the Victoria Park.
