Ras Imani: Colonial times have captivated the thinking of black people
With the belief that most black people have been brained washed into the mind set that their African Heritage is black magic, Ras Imani of the Nyahbingi Order has called on black people to dispel such thoughts.{{more}}
Ras Imani, who delivered a speech at the African Liberation Day March and Rally last Friday at Heritage Square, said that since the colonial times, oppressors have not only invaded the lands of black people to enslave them, but they have also invaded and captivated their thinking.
The Nyahbingi speaker said that even today the oppressors use politics and economics to restrict people but their best weapon has been religion.
Ras Imani emphasized, âYou must remember your sense of self which is your conscious being in the Almighty which is in you. The invaders use their use false religion and tell us that everything about our own spiritual way of living was obeah. It is no wonder that after hundreds of years of the same pattern, weâve become brain washed into believing that their way is normal.â
Ras Imani also pointed out that in todayâs society it was black peopleâs own brothers and sisters who held them back from progressing because of their spite and envy. He said many black people become comfortable in the seats of oppressors and accept their âtrinketsâ of better paying jobs.
He said black consciousness was not a day to pretend and âdress upâ and be âcosmetic Africansâ but was a time for people to be self-determined and remember their history.
âAfter 500 years of slavery and colonialism yet the African man is resilient against those forces that seek to keep us down. The oppression, brutality and rape of our mothers and sister and all the inhumane things we went through we are a people who are still standing,â he ended.
The theme for the African Liberation Day March and Rally was; âIn Solidarity with Africa, for Repatriation, against Neo-Colonial Rule.â(SG)
