Speaking at the African Liberation Day March and Rally last Friday, Dr. Gonsalves explained, “Here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, they telling us that we can’t have a relationship with Cuba, why must I not have relationship with Cuba? Cuba is a Caribbean country; I don’t have to be an enemy of America to have a relationship with Cuba.”

He said that there were millions of Caribbean people in the United States of America and that “The American civilization had vitality, passion and ingenuity” but there were also “other civilizations of merit and worth” that Caribbean people must acknowledge.

Dr Gonslaves reiterated, “These include our own Caribbean Civilization of which the Cuban dimension stands out very much in the relation to the liberation of Africa. We have to do things and sometimes others may not look kindly upon our actions but we have to do things in our own interest.”

The Prime Minister pointed out that while the USA criticizes this country for being cozy with Venezuela it still trades billions of dollars worth of oil with the Spanish speaking nation.

He insisted that as long as he was Prime Minister of this country he would fight against neo -colonialism which he also termed as “backwardness” and “violence in its natural state.”

The Prime Minister also proposed his vision of an ABC or African, Brazil Caribbean connection in the hope of Caribbean people traveling to Africa via Brazil.
