Baptiste, Bonadie attend Labour meet

Minister of Labour René Baptiste and the new Director of the Workers Institute for Research and Education Joseph ‘Burns’ Bonadie attended the 6th Meeting of Caribbean Labour Ministers in Port-of-Spain recently to advance the Decent Work Agenda.{{more}}

The Meeting saw participation from twelve (12) of the thirteen (13) countries of the English and Dutch speaking states, including U.K. territories.

Each country made a Summary presentation on the current status of programmes under the Ministry of Labour.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines stood out in two areas – the Programme Development of Small and Micro Enterprises, and the actual existence of the social contract, even in draft form.

This country’s delegation also submitted their report presentation on the Impact of the Ministry of Labour on the Social and Economic Development of the Country.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been asked to finalise an update on the work in the Fishing Sector for the Convention which comes up for presentation and debate at the next month’s ILO Conference in Geneva.

The meeting was jointly hosted by the ILO sub-regional office in Port-of-Spain and the Ministry of Labour of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago at the Hilton Hotel. The Keynote address at the opening ceremony was delivered by Senator Danny Montario, Minister of Labour and Small and Micro Enterprise Development.
