Understanding the way of life on the island, played a major aspect in Camp Aware No. 3, under the theme: “Preserving Youths Today for Tomorrow”.

Campers even spent one day at Petit Bateau, in the Tobago Cays as part of their socialization.

The Young Health striders 4-H Club of Union Island played host to the camp and was able to give campers a first hand view of their projects, which enabled them to win a Gold and Silver Award from the Commonwealth in 2006.

Camp Aware is expected to be an annual feature of the department once funding is available.

In the meantime the Youth Affairs Department is requesting the support of the general public for the family of young Junior and Demi De Roche of the Union Island 4-H Club.

Junior and Demi’s mom Sherryann, lost all her possession in a fire on the night of Easter Monday. Furniture, appliances, clothes and groceries were all destroyed when fire consumed the premises in which they were stored.

Sherryann, who makes a living as a vendor, also lost all her stock.

Junior is 10 years and Demi is seven years, were part of Camp Aware No. 3. Both received donation of groceries from the camp, but the family is still in need.

Persons wishing to make any contribution to the family can contact the Youth Affairs Office at Telephone No: 456-1087.
