CTAWU calls off Food City boycott
The Commercial Technical and Allied Workers’ Union (CTAWU) has withdrawn the call made to its members and industrial relations partners last week to boycott Food City and National Properties Ltd.
A release from the CTAWU states that on Thursday, April 12, 2007 officials from Food City, National Properties Limited, and the CTAWU “met and resolved the issues between them …{{more}} therefore, as a result of the amicable resolution reached between the respective parties, the CTAWU has taken the decision to call off the boycott action taken by the union on Wednesday, April 10, 2007, with immediate effect”.
The release also states that officials from National Properties Limited and the CTAWU will be meeting soon to start negotiations to put in place their first collective agreement. At present, the parties are operating under the last collective agreement signed between the St. Vincent Marketing Corporation (SVMC) and the CTAWU, part of the assets and liabilities inherited by National Properties Limited, from the now defunct SVMC.
