LOC says thanks to Cricket World Cup Volunteers

Last Saturday evening Cricket World Cup (CWC) volunteers here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines were rewarded at a gala dinner by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the ICC CWC 2007.

The invitation only event took place at the Cruise Ship Terminal and volunteers and officials turned out in their finery to wine and dine.{{more}}

LOC Chief Executive Officer Michael Findlay during his remarks lauded praises on the volunteers for their professionalism, “A job well done”, he said. He also said that he has been getting great reviews about the volunteers from the CWC and throughout the region.

Yvette Wickham, volunteers coordinator and the evening’s emcee also praised the volunteers and commended her staff for their hard work. Spectacular Spectator Experience Manager Camille Soleyn was singled out for going the extra mile amidst applause, catcalls and whistles from the audience. “We could not have done this without you Camille”, Wickham said.

Tourism and Sports Minister Glen Beache also addressed the event, he told the volunteers, “eat and drink well, this is for you”.

Each volunteer was given a trophy as a token of appreciation, then dinner was served after which the bar was opened and the party began.

Wickham told SEARCHLIGHT that plans are on the way to set up a national volunteers programme which would fall under the direction of the Ministry of National Mobilization, and that persons who are currently in the database will have to indicate their willingness to serve.
