Peter’s Hope Secondary School site opened

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves stated that by the year 2011, 72 educational institutions would be operational in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Addressing the site opening of the Peter’s Hope Secondary School last week, Dr. Gonsalves said these institutions would be built at an approximate cost of EC$150 million.{{more}}

Listing the facilities, the Prime Minister said, at present there were nine Learning Resource Centres in operation; two he said were ready to be opened, another two under construction, five to be constructed and one Community Centre had been refurbished and was being used as a Resource Centre. The total cost of these facilities is EC$20 million.

He said Secondary Schools had been built and refurbished at a cost of approximately EC$50 million. Three Primary Schools are to be built at Edinboro, Bequia and West St. George.

Dr. Gonsalves said extensions have also been done on Post Secondary Institutions. He told the gathering, that nursing education now cost the government close to EC$4 million. He said an automotive laboratory had been attached to the Technical College at Arnos Vale and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College had also been extended. The cost attached to these works was EC$8 million.

The National Library, the Performance Arts Centre, the YWCA Pre School, the National Archives, the Georgetown School for Children with Special Needs, the rehabilitation of seven secondary school libraries and information centres and eight early childhood centres complete the list.

The Peter’s Hope site opening was the second such opening ceremony to be held. The first was held at West St. George on March 12, the third was held on March 16 in Bequia and the fourth on March 20 at Edinboro. These are all primary institutions. (API)
