Two women, 2 men held for Trinidad bank robbery

Two women are among four people arrested in connection with several crimes, including last week’s robbery at the Siparia, Trinidad branch of First Citizens.

The four are said to be behind the robbery in which two men walked into the bank and forced a female teller to hand over about $30,000.{{more}}

Police also recovered the shotgun believed to be have been used in the robbery, which happened last Friday.

One of the suspects, a 22-year-old man was also wanted by police for murder, robbery, shooting and drug trafficking, investigators said.

Police said another man was expected to surrender with his lawyer last night. All suspects, among them a 24-year-old housewife, live in the Calcutta, Freeport area, police said. They are expected to be slapped with a series of charges ranging from possession of arms and ammunition and robbery to drug trafficking and assault.

The bank robbery took place around 10 a.m. when two men walked in and grabbed the security guard. They then ordered the teller to hand over money. The bank is located about 20 buildings from the Siparia Police Station. There were several customers waiting in line when the robbers entered. They escaped in a waiting car.

Investigators said they received detailed descriptions of the suspects and had been searching for them since the robbery. (Trinidad Express)
