Four new Schools to be constructed
The chances of youths being involved in social deviant behaviour should be lessened with the construction of four new schools in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
This is the hope of 30 year veteran with the Caribbean Development Bank Yvonne Moses Grant which she expressed at the Official Site Opening Ceremony of the Fair Hall Primary school last Monday.{{more}}
The school which is expected to significantly reduce the over crowding at the Calliaqua Anglican Primary school is scheduled to open in September of 2008. It is one of four schools being funded under phase two of the Caribbean Development Bankâs Basic Education Project, at cost of close to EC$6 million.
âEducation must remain a priority for small, vulnerable states like St Vincent and the Grenadines,â Moses-Grant said.
She however noted the importance of closing the gap developing between the school level and the management and administrative level.
âUrgent attention must be given to the strengthening of the administrative framework,â she said.
This is being seriously addressed, according to Education Minister Girlyn Miguel (left). Speaking at the ceremony Minister Miguel, who described these times as the best to be a child and a teacher said that several training opportunities had been made available for educators in various areas.
Post graduate training in curriculum development, education planning, and policy administration are among the wide range of areas that personnel are receiving training in. A large number of teachers is also enrolled in degree programmes in the various subject areas including Mathematics, Spanish and Computer Sciences.
Meanwhile area representative for East St George, Minister of Transport and Works Clayton Burgin said that he has delivered on his promises to his constituencies, and urged adults to take advantage of the number of adult educational programs being offered at various locations in his constituency.
