PRCN continues battle against violence, abuse

The Purple Ribbon Campaign Network (PRCN) is continuing to make its contribution towards ending violence against women and violence in the society on a whole.

“It is with great dismay that we note the increasing gun violence in once peaceful communities, and condemn the violent death of another young man. We urge that all necessary steps be taken at state and community level to eradicate the illegal use of firearms,” said Nelcia Robinson coordinator of the program.{{more}}

In an effort to involve young men in the program, the Phanters Cricket Club of Peruvian Vale hosted a workshop on “Engaging the imaginations of youths”, last week Tuesday.

Three members of the PRCN, La Ferne Cato, Cottica Grant and Nelcia Robinson handed over copies of Domestic Violence Intervention/Prevention training materials recently to Deputy Commissioner of Police Lenroy Brewster who said that the materials will go a long way in sensitizing police officers on issues of domestic violence. He further stated that the materials would be incorporated into the curriculum of the police training school.

A rally in memory of Stacy Wilson will be staged at the Leeward Bus Terminal on Monday, February 26 commencing at 4:30 p.m. “The rally is an act of comfort to grieving members of the families of both the victim and perpetrator, as well as peace-loving citizens who remain traumatized by the event”, Robinson said.

The network will also carry out activities around International Women’s Day on March 8, under the theme: “Embracing the Power of our Heroines – Never again Slavery –

A life free of violence is our right”.
