Renewal of vehicle licences now November 27

The date for the renewal of vehicle licences has been put back by one week to Monday, November 27, 2006.

Comptroller of the Inland Revenue, Kelvin Pompey, said that the additional week was to allow for more time to further publicise the major change to the system and also to allow staff more time to ensure that the mechanisms are put in place and working smoothly for the change over.

This year will be the last time that vehicle licences will be renewed in November and December.

Pompey said the aim is to stagger renewals so that licences from next year will be renewed in the month to which the last digit of the licence number corresponds.

The licence book will be replaced by a driver photo ID.
