NO hope says opposition

On the 27th anniversary of nationhood, as others laud the successes and progress of the young country, two political parties don’t see eye to eye with these pronouncements.

The New Democratic Party and the Green Party have declared St Vincent and the Grenadines as a nation with rising crime levels, a crippled economy, a quickly approaching state of bankruptcy and a miniature apartheid system. {{more}}

In his Independence Day message, Leader of the Opposition, Arnhim Eustace indicates that the present state of St Vincent and the Grenadines has left many with no hope for a brighter future.

“Our 27th anniversary finds us battling the scourge of crime and violence with little to show but mere rhetoric … (it) finds our people calling for the protection of crown lands to make sure that land would be available for locals at reasonable prices for years to come … (it also) finds us as a people more divided than ever before … without a hope for a brighter future “ he said in his Independence Day message.

A similar dim view of the state of affairs was held by the Green Party, whose leader, Ivan O’Neil, says the last twenty two years were marked by bad governance by the three regimes that led the nation during this period of time.

“It is sad that between 1984 and 2006 the three wicked regimes that have governed our country have squandered over one billion dollars of public funds and apart from a couple of white elephants we have little to show from this massive public debt,” said O’Neal.
