Minister meets with squatters
Residents of Buddy Gutter were updated on plans to improve living conditions of squatters in the area.
It was the third in a series of meetings held by the Ministry of Informal Human Settlements to inform these people, who live below the poverty line, of the government’s plans to install facilities and also to hear of and address their concerns.{{more}}
Brian George, manager of the Housing and Land Development Corporation said that the project will address their needs in respect of roads, street lights, drains, retaining walls, and land ownership.
Minister Julian Francis said that nine areas will benefit. They are: Diamond, Campden park, Glen, Largo Height, Buddy Gutter, Trigger-ridge, Charles Village in Spring Village and Keartons in Walliabou and Owia.
Up to 5,000 people are to benefit from the project.
