Funding for George Stephens Secondary School

The Social Investment Fund, in continuing its efforts to reduce poverty through community empowerment, presented over $10,000 worth of equipment to the George Stephens Secondary School for a literacy Remediation and Life Skills Support Centre which was set up to help students master and improve their reading skills.

The equipment, which will form part of a multi-faceted audio video training centre, were presented by the staff of the Social Investment Fund, to the Principal, Susan Cunningham-Ryan, in the presence of staff and students.{{more}}

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the fund, Theophilus Shallow, said that he believed that reading was fundamental to a good education and that the fund was prepared to assist any community group or organisation with a plan to develop their community.

The school is the second to receive assistance from the fund. Sandy Bay Secondary School was the first.
