JUSTICE FREDERICK BRUCE-LYLE KNOCKS POOR COURT CONDITIONS

Judges in St Vincent and the Grenadines may soon go blind and deaf if they continue to function in Chambers that don’t meet 20th century standards let alone those of the 21st century.

These are the views of Justice Frederick Bruce-Lyle as he laid into the working conditions at the Judges Chambers, located downstairs the High Court in Kingstown. He was at the time delivering the closing remarks at the special sitting of the High Court to mark the beginning of the 2006/2007 law term last Monday, September 18th.{{more}}

Justice Bruce-Lyle complained of leaking roofs, noisy, ancient air-condition units and very poor lighting which leave him to wonder if there is a perception that Judges don’t deserve any thing good.

During his address he also lashed out at the conditions at the country court houses which are located upstairs district police stations. Referring to them as appalling he said that the conditions detract from any one giving maximum production.

Justice Bruce-Lyle also had a stern word of caution for the leaders of the police force. He called on the commissioner of Police to rid the force of disrespectful police officers who are making the image of the force hit rock bottom. He said that he has been the victim of police disrespect and rudeness on countless occasions and has had to make reports to the top brass of the force on several occasions. He also warned police officers not to feed the resurgence of the disgusting phenomenon of police brutality.
