CDERA to be renamed in 2007
The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Relief Agency (CDERA) is to be renamed in 2007 to reflect a broadening of its mandate beyond response and relief, said coordinator Jeremy Collymore.{{more}}
Collymore said that in the new dispensation CDERA will bring on board, institutions such as the Seismic Research Unit, the Caribbean Meteorological Center and all the technical advisers involved in disaster management planning.
The agency has also been granted a 25 per cent increase in its budget.
Plans are also afoot to develop a disaster risk management study for the tourism sector financed by the Inter- American Development Bank.
