ECTAD launched joint Health, Agriculture project

Eastern Caribbean Trading Agriculture and Development Organisation (ECTAD) launched its new project of linking Agriculture, Health and Nutrition at its recent Stakeholder workshop on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at the Anglican Pastoral Centre.

According to Jethro Greene, Chief Coordinator, the project overall objective is to reduce the incidence of NCD (Non Communicable Diseases) through increased production and consumption of more fruits and vegetables by our local population. {{more}}

The purpose of the project is (i) to promote and create greater awareness on the production, use and health value of local fruits and vegetables, and to increase production and offer at a competitive price quality local fruits and vegetables to the local population, Tourism markets and private sector thus keeping more of the tourism dollar in SVG; (ii) to offer proper blends and mixture of fruits and vegetables and also local fish and meats in ways that are convenient to the population.

ECTAD will collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Health and other relevant Government Ministries and the private sector groups in the implementation of this project.

Over 70% of the workshop participants were young female leaders who are expected to take a lead role in this project.
