Bomb scare at Police lecture

A senseless act by an individual disrupted the tranquility at the Peace Memorial Hall last Wednesday evening. At a lecture held in memory of the late police officer, Elson “Raca” Richardson, what was supposed to be a night of remembrance took on a sour note.

The Memorial Lecture, which was being delivered by Vincentian-born George Jackson, Commissioner of Police in the Bermuda Police Service had to be cut short after Police Commissioner, Keith Miller made an announcement ordering everyone seated to evacuate the building in an orderly manner as soon as possible.{{more}}

Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves who was also present at the lecture, had to be escorted swiftly to safety by his bodyguards.

Superintendent of Police, Artis Davis stated that an anonymous call had been made to the Peace Memorial Hall at around 9:15 p.m. The caller said that there was a bomb located in the building. Davis said it is still not known who made the call but investigations are still ongoing into the matter.

Elson ‘Raca’ Richardson was murdered on November 14, 2004. The court case has already concluded and two young men are awaiting sentencing in the October Criminal Assizes.
