Consul General weds Bequia sweetheart

by Nelson A. King in New York

New York Consul General Cosmus Cozier and his Bequia sweetheart Carolyn Dewer two Saturdays ago exchanged wedding vows at St. Alban’s Episcopal (Anglican) Church in Brooklyn in an elaborate ceremony that attracted over 200 guests.

Reanna Ollivierre, sister of the bride, was Matron of Honor, while another sister, Drucilla Boucher, was Bridesmaid.{{more}}

Cozier chose his best friend, O’Brien Simmons – a former president of the Council of St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Organizations, U.S.A, the Brooklyn-based, Vincentian umbrella group, and president of Bequia United Progressive Organization (BUPO) – to be his Best Man.

Andre Dewer, brother of the bride, served as Giver of the Bride, and Rohan Cozier, Cozier’s eldest of four sons, was Groomsman.

The entire wedding ceremony and reception, at Astoria World Manor in Astoria, Queens, was produced by Cozier’s niece Annette Stowe, an employee with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) in its New York office.

The bride wore a gorgeously stunning Duchess White satin gown with exquisite pearl beading and Swarovski crystals.

The design included a high neck, long sleeves with v-shape at wrist, and a back bodice, which featured a heart design draped in pearl beading.

The full skirt, cinched at the waist with a six-foot train, was embellished also with Swarovski crystals and pearls.

The bride’s hair was adorned with a crystal tiara, crowning her three-tier fingertip, crystal embellished veil.

The groom’s tuxedo – black pants and white jacket with black binding, white shirt and pearl white tie – was super perfect for the enthralling morning ceremony.

Popular Vincentian-born radio personality Donn Bobb served as Master of Ceremony at the reception, and trendy DJ Supa Eyes furnished appropriate music reminiscent of youthfully romantic, exuberant times, leaving many to shed a tear.

Short toasts were given, among others, by Simmons; Earlene Williams-King; Cyril “Scorcher” Thomas, the Deputy New York Consul General; Jackson Farrell, president of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ex-Teachers’ Association and current executive of the Renal Failure Relief Fund, Cozier’s brain child; Claude Leach, BUPO executive; Lydon Charles, president of the Council; Bequian Dr. Hazell, Cozier’s childhood friend and the bride’s relative; Lenox Daniel, the Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations; and Jessica Odle.

“The wedding of Cosmus and Carolyn was timely and well organized,” Daniel said. “The women were dressed elegantly, and so were the men. The Bride was graciously dressed.”

“I’m blessed to have met and married a caring, beautiful lady,” Cozier said in his marriage speech, “someone who understands who I am and all about.”
