CAP artwork to be displayed at Cricket world cup

Minister of Culture and area representative for West Kingstown, the Hon. Rene Baptiste has indicated that she will sit and discuss which of the exhibits from the 2006 Children Against Poverty (CAP) closing ceremony will be displayed at the ‘Craft and Cultural Village’ for Cricket World Cup 2007.

Minister Baptiste was making brief remarks at the closing ceremony of the CAP programme last Friday 11, at the Kingstown Anglican School.##:[more]## “The talent of our children never ceases to amaze me” Baptiste stated. She also said that she would like to see some of the work duplicated, to be sold and the money go to the various schools.

Over 600 students from 12 schools including the Sandy Bay Government School and the Bequia Anglican Primary School participated in this year’s programme.

When he addressed the excited students, parents and teachers in attendance, Minister of National Mobilization, Michael Browne said that one way of dealing with the problem of poverty is to give the poor more resources including educational resources.

The excited children were also graced with the presence of Miss SVG 2006, Sheridan Lewis who did a tremendous rendition of the song she sang in the talent segment of the contest, “One moment in time”. Fellow 2006 Miss SVG contestants Nerrisa Olliverre and Danielle Ollivierre sang and gave words of inspiration to the young children respectively.

The closing ceremony was followed by a short cultural presentation which saw wonderful displays of singing, drama and poetry by the youngsters.
