Marriaqua hosts Breadfruit Festival to mark Emancipation month

The Emancipation Month celebrations continue this week with the Exhibition at the Kingstown Public Library.

Come tomorrow, Saturday August 12, 2006, it is the turn of Marriaqua to showcase their Breadfruit Festival which will be held at the Primary School Grounds in Richland Park.{{more}}

Groups are busy preparing for the event, which will feature Breadfruit Cuisine, Banana Cuisine and cultural performances – dance and poetry.

The next Breadfruit Festival takes place in North Leeward in Chateaubelair on Saturday, August 19, 2006.

“Life with Mabel”, a radio drama will be aired during this month to renew interest in local radio drama, and a Folk concert is also planned for Sunday, August 20 at Fort Charlotte from 4:30 p.m.

The Global Afrikan Congress (SVG) will host an evening of stimulating “edutainment” on Friday, August 25 from 6 p.m. at Heritage Square at the Carnegie Library Grounds, featuring poets and performing artistes under the theme – “Sounds of Freedom” with thematic addresses on Black Woman – Reparation and Reconstructing Emancipation.

The Congress will also pay tribute to Glenroy “Sulle” Caesar who champions the cause of Emancipation consciousness in Vincentian Culture.
