Drama Festival gets a boost from NCB

The National Commercial Bank has made a $5,000 donation to the development of the 2006 Community Drama Festival, which will be held in November.

At a press conference held at the Cruise Ship Terminal on Monday, July 24, Drama Development Officer, Martin Quashie thanked the financial institution for its interest in the development of theatre.{{more}}

He announced that the money would go towards the five drama groups that will be presenting their plays, to ensure that the standard of production improves.

Quashie explained that over the years patrons have complained about shoddy productions that have been staged in the festival, and that with each group receiving $1,000 in assistance, the overall quality is expected to improve.

The Cultural Officer outlined that each group has the task of coming up with an original play, producing it and finally staging it on three different nights.

Quashie pointed out that while there were many talented performers, the ultimate goal is for dramatists to become knowledgeable in all aspects of theatre production.

He said that November, which has been declared Drama Month, will have the Community College performing on November 3, 4 and 5 with their play entitled, “Immortal Desires”, the Police Training School presents on the November 10, 11 and 12 with a play yet to be announced.

On November 17, 18 and 19 the Waves Theatre Guild will stage their presentation called, “Deceptive Wages”. On November 24, 25 and 26 the Coast Guard will showcase their play “We are the Coast Guard”, and on November 28, 29 and 30 the Methodist Dramatist will present their production “Stone.”

All performances will take place at the Peace Memorial Hall and all five groups will be presented with a plaque of appreciation for their participation in the 2006 National Commercial Bank Community Drama Festival in the month of November.
